Course Presentation
Physics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University is one of the best physics majors in Poland, which is confirmed by the distinction received from the Polish Accreditation Commission. It is our most flexible and versatile major striving for interdisciplinarity and merging with other fields of science such as chemistry, biology, medicine, computer science, and even archaeology or art. This approach provides an excellent basis for creating advanced technologies (deep tech), based on specific engineering innovations or scientific discoveries scientific discoveries, whose primary goal is to pioneer solutions to society’s biggest problems; including chronic disease, climate change, or clean energy.
In experimental physics at UMK, we specialize in photonics and quantum physics, among other fields. Generating photons, manipulating them, controlling them, interacting with matter and exploiting the properties of light and photons is crucial in communication and information technology (ICT), space (Space), cyber security (cyber security), bioinformatics, and medical technology (medtech). Students from the very first years of their studies can join scientific work research groups as part of international projects. It is with us that students built a prototype of the world’s first SOCT optical tomograph, here they search for dark matter using the optical atomic clock, one of the most precise devices in the world, and it is here where they are developing physics beyond the familiar standard model.
In Toruń, we guarantee an individual approach to the student, the help of a tutor and the choice of the optimal path of development for each student.
