The course aims to provide knowledge on the basic concepts of IoT (Internet of Things). Integration of ad hoc networks and sensors networks and their modelling, topological construction of various sensors networks in MATLAB. The main architectures of systems where sensors are used and the distribution of their information. Distributed systems of wireless sensors in normal environments and in difficult conditions.

Introduction to what IoT (Internet of Things) is.

Elements of an IoT ecosystem. Examples of IoT applications.

Terminology definitions and frameworks: IoT definitions, IoT architecture, IoT frameworks.

Identification of IoT objects.  Structural aspects of IoT.

Characteristics of the environment. Traffic characteristics. Scalability, interoperability and security of IoT systems.

Power/Energy of IoT devices. Sensor and wireless technologies.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN): Development history and context, WSN architecture, sensor node, link nodes and network nodes, secure communication.

Specific IoT applications in WSNs. WSN challenges: security, QoS, configuration. WSN communication protocols: data link protocols, routing protocols.

IoT security. IoT Vulnerability. Security requirements. Threat analysis. Identity verification, access control, message integrity, security model for IoT.

IoT applications. Smart metering infrastructure. e-Health Networks. Smart cities. Automation of vehicles. Automation of residential houses. Smart cards.
