Train the Trainer Programme launching

The EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative is launching a Train the Trainer (TtT) programme which is designed to enhance the capabilities of educators in the fields of deep tech (DT) and Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E), to address the significant gap in the integration of deep tech and I&E content in higher education. A pilot programme will begin in October, followed by an open call for applications once the pilot is complete.

What is the Train the Trainer programme?

The training aims to address the gap in the integration of deep tech and I&E content in higher education, building a robust community of well-equipped educators who can foster a more dynamic and integrated approach to teaching deep tech and I&E.

The programme runs for two months and consists of hybrid sessions and an online peer-to-peer forum, equipping educators to enrich their training methods and develop new content.

Following the live launch session participants complete three modules:

  • Importance of DT and I&E crossover
  • Popular and emerging technologies in DT
  • Defining learning outcomes and assessment

Participants will then take part in a live support session before completing three further modules:

  • Teaching methodologies
  • Creating a living community
  • Understanding effectuation

After completion of these three modules, participants will attend a live graduation session.

What challenges is it trying to solve?

  • Knowledge Integration: Many educators lack the skills to effectively link I&E with deep tech content, which is crucial for preparing students to establish start-up businesses in the tech sector.
  • Engagement: There is a need for more engaging and innovative teaching materials that can captivate deep tech students while imparting essential entrepreneurial skills.
  • Teaching Techniques: Educators require training in advanced pedagogical techniques to enhance the learning experience.

Who is the programme aimed at?

The TtT programme is specifically designed for university-level educators in the fields of deep tech and I&E. The primary target audience includes:

  • Deep tech Educators: Highly educated in STEM and deep tech, looking to combine their scientific teaching practices with innovative methods to inspire entrepreneurial mindsets in students.
  • EE Educators (I&E educators): Experienced in teaching entrepreneurship and looking for novel approaches to engage technically skilled students aiming to start deep tech businesses.

This training is especially relevant because it:

  • Introduces fun and alternative methods grounded in solid pedagogical practices to help educators keep their teaching methods fresh and engaging.
  • Includes innovative uses of AI to create lesson plans, introducing educators to cutting-edge tools that will enhance their teaching.
  • Teaches educators how to implement Harvard Business School’s Case Method teaching technique which is effective in developing I&E competences in students.
  • Creates a peer-to-peer support network to facilitate ongoing collaboration and sharing of best practices.
  • Offers a mix of video content, interactive apps, and takeaway assets that can immediately be applied in the classroom.

Applications for the first cohort following the Pilot will open in November.
