Our pledge
Introduction:
The construction and real estate industry is one of the most important, yet least efficient, sectors of our economy. It contributes around 8% of Europe’s GDP, employs around 18 million people, but is also responsible for around a third of all CO2 emissions and a significant proportion of material waste. The industry is outdated, fragmented and lacks critical digital competencies. To achieve its environmental and economic goals, Europe’s construction industry needs to dramatically upgrade its digital skills.

Our Pledge
Our pledge is to provide free and low-cost training to construction industry professionals across Europe to increase the basic level of competence in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital ways of working. Our proposed education programme will be multi-tiered.

Level 1: Free training in Ukraine
Working with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) and construction professionals in Ukraine, we plan to deliver a free online “BIM Foundation” course to several hundred construction professionals in Ukraine by the end of 2024. This will be based on the buildingSMART International Professional Certification Programme (https://education.buildingsmart.org/our-program/). buildingSMART International has already committed that all exams for Ukrainian participants will be free of charge.

Level 2: Low cost training in English and Spanish
At the next level, we will offer low-cost online training in English and Spanish (also with the buildingSMART exam and certificate) to the European and global construction communities.

Level 3: Bachelor and continuing education courses in Switzerland (HSLU)
Finally, we will integrate this online learning content into the existing HSLU Digital Construction Bachelor (https://www.hslu.ch/en/lucerne-school-of-engineering-architecture/degree-programmes/bachelor/digital-construction/) and Continuing Education (https://www.hslu.ch/de-ch/technik-architektur/weiterbildung/bau/digital-construction/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmMayBhDuARIsAM9HM8eQjqqysS3f7DfFn20ynXRFtjMXHRk1gqoPFHToJJGr6vGR_b9CDc4aAuZcEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) programmes offered in German.
