EIT Urban Mobility
Our pledge
The Deep Tech Talent Initiative is a Cross-KIC activity by the EIT Community, and EIT Urban Mobility takes part in its implementation. The EIT Urban Mobility Academy provides deep tech training in topics related to urban mobility.
About
EIT Urban Mobility is the leading network for transport innovation in European cities and is committed to helping the EU accomplish its ambitious CO2 reduction goals. We match and connect partners working in the public, business, research and education sectors and provide them with access to markets, talent, funding, and knowledge.
Operating within the EU ecosystem, we align with EU priorities and contribute to implement key EU strategies and initiatives including the Green Deal, the Cities Mission (100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030), Horizon Europe and New European Bauhaus. We also collaborate with our partners on local projects and initiatives and establish strong relationships with regional and city governments.
Cities are at the heart of everything we do – we bring together partners from industry (including start-ups), universities and research, and cities to develop and deploy new solutions that enable the behavioural change needed to transition to a decarbonised mobility and transport system in Europe.
We are Europe’s largest innovation community for urban mobility in cities, involving more than 300 entities in 33 countries around Europe. Many innovative solutions to achieve sustainable urban mobility exist, yet their widespread adoption is often slow. Our role is to catalyse rapid uptake and speed up the transition. To do so, we bring talent to business, innovations to market, support start-ups to scale and match and connect partners. We focus on innovations that support cities on their path to net zero. In 2022, we address the challenges cities face in the areas of active mobility, future mobility, sustainable city logistics, reallocation of urban space, and mobility and clean energy.
How do we do that?
- Match and connect – We connect start-ups, align networks and drive ecosystems to accelerate the transformation of the mobility sector, throughout all our activities and geographies.
- Talent to business – To boost the number of skilled mobility practitioners and catalyse new ideas, we deliver higher education degrees and tailored courses and programmes on entrepreneurship and innovation for
students and professionals. We also run start-up incubator programmes for students who are keen to become entrepreneurs. - Innovations to market – we bring together private mobility providers such as established companies, start-ups, and SMEs as well as research institutes to work together to implement agile pilots in European cities where market-ready solutions are tested in real-life.
- Start-ups to scale – As an impact investor we invest in start-ups that will have a positive impact socially, environmentally as well as strong return on investment financially. Start-ups access funding, coaching and
concrete opportunities through accelerator programmes. Gender-balanced start-ups and scale-ups are given priority.
