Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Geology and Mining
Our pledge
The Faculty of Geology and Mining (FGM) is the only faculty in Albania that offers geoscience education. The EU has a growing demand for raw materials, especially for the critical raw material (CRM) and strategic one (SRM). FGM strives to follow the EU directives and apply them to its educational process, which is one of its main challenges. The mining resources sector needs to improve its efficiency and adopt a circular economy approach, which requires students to learn new technologies. Until now, these technologies have been mainly learned through international projects, but they need to be integrated into the curriculum. We believe that professionals and graduates who want to work in this sector should keep updating their skills as new technologies, especially deep tech, evolve rapidly. By joining this initiative as a pledge, we increase our chances of learning innovative techniques.
The faculty also aims to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among its students and support their innovative ideas. The academic staff is working hard to incorporate these aspects into the courses and programs that we offer.
About
The Faculty of Geology and Mining (FGM) is a prestigious institution that has been teaching and graduating engineers in various fields of geoscience for the last 60 years. It is located in Tirana, the capital of Albania, and it is part of the Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT).
The FGM aims to provide high-quality education and research in the field of geology and mining, as well as to contribute to the national and regional development of the mineral resources sector. The FGM offers five bachelor programs, nine master programs, and several doctoral programs in different disciplines of geological engineering, mineral resources engineering, oil and gas engineering, geoinformatics engineering, and geoenvironmental engineering. The FGM also collaborates with various stakeholders from the industry, academia, government, and civil society to address the challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation and the sustainability of the mining sector.
The Department of Mineral Resources Engineering (DIBM) is one of the five departments of the FGM that focuses on the teaching and research activities related to the exploration, extraction, processing, and management of mineral resources. The DIBM strives to improve its capacity and expertise in order to offer innovative solutions and best practices for the mining industry, as well as to support the government in solving scientific and technical issues at the national and regional level.
