Our pledge
Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) has a complex, multicultural academic profile with three lines of study, featuring cultural, scientific, technological and vocational dimensions, from arts and theology to humanities, social and natural/life sciences, mathematics/computer science, engineering/technology and sport. UBB is a key actor in Cluj, Transylvania, and Romania. UBB’s primary strategic objective is to consolidate these aspects, while at the same time enhancing its level of impact and quality so that it may compete in a generally accepted sense of term in the international academic environment, along with the main players in the global higher education. In other words, to develop and confirm a world-class university status. All three academic missions specific to a world-class university are already undertaken by UBB: (1) didactic, (2) research-development-innovation and (3) relationship with society. By joining the Deep Tech Pledge, UBB engages through collaboration with European Universities to impact generated through education and research to the position Europe as a leader in innovation.
About
UBB is the university with the most diverse academic profile in the country (in terms of the number of programs and its multicultural character with three official academic languages: Romanian, Hungarian, and German). It also boasts the oldest academic tradition in Romania and represents the largest academic community in the country. Since its founding, UBB has been part of the gallery of prestigious and benchmark universities in Romania, consistently ranking first in the country according to the University Metaranking, which summarizes major international university rankings. Additionally, for several years, UBB has consistently ranked among the top universities globally and by field, consistently placing within the top 5% of universities worldwide (out of approximately 30,000 existing institutions). UBB boasts advanced academic infrastructure, including integrated research and development units within European networks, modernized teaching laboratories, and integration with virtual/augmented/mixed reality through the UBB-EON-XR Center. Recently (in 2021), following the international QS STAR audit, UBB was confirmed as Romania’s first world-class university (QS***). Since 2020, UBB has been accepted into GUILD, an organization of some of Europe’s most prestigious world-class/research-intensive universities. UBB has also received the European HR Award for Excellence, and as of 2021/2022, it is part of the European university alliance EUTOPIA.
